Quick answer: the best ShortPixel alternative depends on why you’re leaving. For free, unlimited compression on your own server, choose EWWW Image Optimizer. For simple plans with free WebP and AVIF, choose Imagify. For CDN delivery priced by monthly visits, choose Optimole. None of these three write alt text, so if you’re leaving ShortPixel but want to keep AI-written alt text, pair your new compressor with ImageSEO, which also renames files.
ShortPixel is a capable plugin: compression, WebP and AVIF, a CDN, and — more recently — AI alt text, captions and titles. So why look for an alternative? ShortPixel counts credits. The free plan gives 100 credits a month; monthly credits expire after 30 days, while one-time credit packages (from $19.99) never expire. The Unlimited plan ($9.99 a month, or $8.33 billed yearly) removes the limit on compression credits and includes 100 AI credits a month for the AI features; the Unlimited AI plan ($13.33 a month billed yearly) makes AI credits unlimited too.
That’s good value if you use both compression and AI. It’s less attractive if you only need one of them, or if you prefer a flat free tool. Also note that ShortPixel doesn’t charge credits for images it can optimize by less than 5%, per its own FAQ.
